(Good morning, Peeps! Thanks for stopping and sharing some coffee with me this morning!)
It's been 3 weeks since I rode around the scenic byways of Oregon. Just cruisin' with my hubby. He had a conference in Portland and I was blessed to be able to tag along. We arrived before the conference was scheduled to start, so we galavanted across the countryside in style. I mean we were stylin'! In all my years I'd never ridden in a convertible with the top down!
It may have been the middle of July, but it WAS NOT top down weather! Cold, damp and occasional rain was the forecast while we were there. But it did not stop this rugged, SUV drivin', mountain woman. I was going to enjoy crusin' with my honey with the top down!

One of my first observations was how exposed to the elements we were with the top down. Traffic is louder, the air is colder, but the most unexpected observation is how low we are to the ground, how high everyone else is, and we're totally exposed. On lookers could see everything in our car at a glance. Nothing was hidden. At first I felt vulnerable. What if someone reaches in while we're at a stoplight and takes my purse? What if they try to jump in the car? What if a rock flies off the tire of the car in front of us, hitting Mike on the head, knocking him out while he's driving and we crash and both die? (Okay, a little mellow dramatic, I know.)
After getting over the initial fears of vulnerability, I realized I liked being open. It was freeing. I had nothing to hide, so I had nothing to fear. From that moment on, I knew I was going to enjoy my new found life-style of top down living.
That's how God wants us to live with Him. Nothing to hid, laid bare before Him, totally exposed. The Psalmist David understood the freedom of top down living when He wrote Psalm 139. Throughout the psalm he acknowledges how all-knowing God is and how very small he is. Even when he was created in secret he knew he was completely laid open before the Lord.
At the end of the psalm in verses 23 and 24, David models the prayer for top down living. "Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way."
Top down living. What a freeing way to live!
